Growth in trade between Russia and Thailand reported

The volume of trade between Russia and Thailand reached $345.7m in the first six months of 2002. The volume of Russian exports to Thailand amounted to $246.2m (a 72% growth compared to the corresponding period of 2001), and the volume of imports from Thailand was $99.5m (a 199% increase). The volume of trade reached $395.2m in 2001 (the volume of exports was $314.1m, and the volume of imports amounted to $81.1m). The Press Service of Russia's Economic Development and Trade Minister released this information in connection with a visit of the Prime Minister of Thailand to Russia, which is beginning today. Russian exports to Thailand mainly consist of rolled metal and scrap metal. The volumes of their supplies to Thailand reached $150.8m and $31.3m respectively in the first six months of 2002, making up 61.2% and 12.7% of the total volume of exports to Thailand respectively. Unrefined sugar remains the main product imported from Thailand. The volume of its supplies increased by 652% in the first six months of this year compared to that in the first six months of 2001, reaching $59.4m.
